Chapter 8 TKM Discussion Questions

Remember to answer the discussion completely and fully if you want full credit.

According to Atticus, Boo Radley placed the blanket on Scout's shoulders. Recall the "crimes" the townspeople have attributed to Boo. How do you explain the disparity between Boo's act of kindness toward Scout and the stories of the townspeople?

-OR-

Miss Maudie tells the children her only concern about the fire that destroyed her home had been the danger to the neighborhood. How would you react if everything you owned was destroyed? What does Miss Maudies's attituee reveal about her character?

  1. If everything I owned was destroyed I would most likely feel bad, only because of the many momories that are now destroyed. I also would be sort of happy. This is because I think it would be a fresh start for me. I think Miss Maudie didn't care about her home being on fire, because she stated, "I wanted to set it on fire a thousand times, but I didn't want to go to jail." From that statement I think that Miss Maudie loved her neighborhood more than her on home. I think that Miss Maudie thinks of others more than she think of herself.

  2. I think that Boo Radley is a nice, kind, and caring person. I also think that a person shouldn't be treated like a criminal for one little mistake they have made in the past. The townspeople make it seem like Boo is a horrible and sinful man, when he isn't. I think they should forgive him.

  3. Thoughtful response Jalissa! What evidence from the story reveals that Boo is kind?
